The past three months have been very busy for the Santander shareholder team in the UK. We have visited Chichester, Chester and Poole, hosting roadshows and meeting many shareholders along the way. In addition, we have sponsored the London Spanish Film Festival which showcased a selection of some of the best recent Spanish productions.
On 21st June Santander's Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place in the city of Santander, in the north-west of Spain. This year's AGM gave those who attended a chance to hear in detail how the bank had managed to maintain its competitiveness, in a year that had seen many other banks suffer, owing to a very volatile time for all financial institutions. One of the key highlights of the AGM was Chairman, Emilio Botín's announcement that the bank plans to exceed 10 billion Euros in total profit for 2008. Click here to find out more.
Another major highlight of this period was the Santander British Grand Prix which took place on the weekend of 4th-6th July. The event, sponsored by Santander, represented a huge success; almost 60, 000 people visited the Santander/Abbey stand at the circuit and those watching the event were able to witness Lewis Hamilton achieving his first ever British Grand Prix victory. This was also the first time a British driver had won the British Grand Prix since David Coulthard did so 10 years ago. Also scoring points in the race was Lewis' team mate Heikki Kovalainen. Congratulations to Lewis and Heikki on their excellent results and for making Santander proud to be their sponsor!
I would like to thank all of those shareholders who attended the roadshows, visited our stand in Silverstone and those who attended the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre this Summer, we are grateful for your continuing loyalty to Santander and hope that even more shareholders will be attending our forthcoming events in 2008.
