Santander Named Best Bank in the World by
'Euromoney' magazine
At a prestigious awards ceremony held in London in July, the magazine also named Abbey, Best Bank in the UK. Santander also won individual awards for being Best Bank in Latin America, Spain, Portugal, Chile and Argentina, as well as receiving the Best Bank in Project Finance Award in Latin America. According to Euromoney, Santander "is very probably the best run major banking group in the world right now".
Santander is the only Spanish bank to have won the Best Bank in the World award from Euromoney . The bank first won the Best Bank in the World award in 2005. Abbey has won the award for Best Bank in the UK for the first time. According to Euromoney: “Santander has been busy working its magic on Abbey since it acquired the small underperforming mortgage bank in 2004, and today the transformation into gutsy competitor is complete.” The past winners of the UK award have been Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds TSB.
Euromoney magazine is one of the prime publications for the banking and financial world. The Euromoney Awards for Excellence are the banking industry's 'Oscars' and all the winners will have undergone a rigorous, independent assessment of their financial performance over the last 12 months.
