Nominee Services
When Santander acquired Abbey, in November 2004, the Santander Nominee Service was put in place to make being an investor in Santander easier for our shareholders. Now that Santander has also acquired Alliance & Leicester, our aim is to continue to make it as easy as possible to hold shares in Santander.
Most UK Santander shareholders hold their shares through the Santander Nominee Service (managed by Equiniti) or The Santander UK Nominee (managed by Capita).
Both of these services enable you to hold your entitlement to Santander shares in the UK, rather than in Spain. They provide a way for you to settle transactions on your Santander shares without having to contact brokers in Spain or exchange currency when buying or selling Santander shares. The Santander Nominee Service and the Santander UK Nominee entitle you to receive your Santander dividend payments in Sterling.
Which nominee service holds my shares?
Most UK Santander shareholders, who are not former Alliance and Leicester shareholders, hold their shares in the Santander Nominee Service.

Former Alliance & Leicester shareholders are now split between two nominees. Former Alliance & Leicester Sharesafe shareholders are still registered with Capita Registrars in a nominee service called Santander UK Nominee

Former Alliance & Leicester shareholders who held their shares in certificated (paper) form on the main register have been transferred to the Santander Nominee Service, which is administered by Equiniti Financial Services.
Former certificated shareholders now in the Santander Nominee Service will be given a new Unique Reference Number (URN). You will find your URN on your opening entitlement statement or first dividend statement.
